BRUSSELS—The European Union imposed fresh sanctions on North Korea on Friday, the latest package of restrictions aimed at the country over its nuclear and missile tests.

The measures will target the country’s nuclear, weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs, the EU said.

North Korea’s actions represent a “grave threat to international peace and security in the region and beyond,” the EU said in a statement.

The bloc had already acted on March 5 and March 31 to execute United Nations-mandated sanctions on North Korean people and entities.

Earlier this month, it imposed a set of unilateral EU sanctions on the country, targeting 18 mostly high-ranking military officers with an asset freeze and travel ban.
